Luke 8:4-8
Sermon: 2040 Mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, Part 2

Pray Over This

“And when a great multitude had gathered, and they had come to Him from every city, He spoke by a parable: ‘A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it. Some fell on rock; and as soon as it sprang up, it withered away because it lacked moisture. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it. But others fell on good ground, sprang up, and yielded a crop a hundredfold.’ When He had said these things He cried, ‘He who has ears to hear, let him hear!’”
Luke 8:4-8

Ponder This

Jesus Christ, the Sower, was scattering seed with a lavish hand. He was not conservative about the seed. Some seed falls on the worst sod; some falls on stony ground; some falls among thorns; some falls on good ground. He’s scattering seed everywhere! Now He has taught us to do the same thing. We need to scatter seed everywhere. It doesn’t make any difference where you are, you never know when the seed is going to sprout. Don’t be as much a soil tester as a seed sower.

I remember having a young man ask me to come witness to his dad. He said, “My daddy doesn’t like you, but I want you to come, and I want to have some friends over.” I went over and I opened my Bible and taught. The father came in, and I’ve never seen a stonier, harder look on any man in my life. I was intimidated but I went ahead and shared. I had forgotten about that incident until several years later. I was in a church service and a man stood up to give a testimony and I realized it was him. That father who gave every indication he was not interested in faith was giving testimony. I was sure I had sowed to concrete, but he came to know the Lord Jesus Christ.

  • Who are some people with whom you neglect to share your faith?
  • What does it look like to be a seed sower instead of a soil tester?

Practice This

Write down a list of people you can share your faith with, including those from whom you would not expect a favorable response. Ask God to help you be a seed sower in all your relationships.
