Pray for What God Promised You - Love Worth Finding - January 18

Pray for What God Promised You

JANUARY 18

For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. 2 Cor. 1:20

Another way of saying it is: “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ. And so through Him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by us to the glory of God.” God had already prophesied that He was going to do something, but still Daniel prayed.

Daniel could have just leaned back, put his feet up, and said, “Well, God, since You said You would do it, there’s no need for me to pray about it.” But he didn’t.

It’s a strange thing—the Bible teaches us to pray about what God has already promised He would do.

  • Revelation 11:15 says, “The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever.” Yet Jesus taught us to pray “Thy kingdom come and Thy will be done …”
  • The Bible teaches there’s going to be peace in Jerusalem, yet Psalm 122:6 tells us to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem.”
  • Jesus Christ is going to come again. (Revelation 22:20) Then John prays, “Even so, Come, Lord Jesus.” It is prophesied, yet we’re told to pray it will happen.

Even when God says He’s going to do something, He does it through the prayers of His people. God wants you and me to take part in bringing about His will on earth through prayer. So, you and I need to pray! Be a part of what God is doing and will do through your prayers.
