False Security

Today's Scripture

"For God does not show favoritism." Romans 2:11 NIV

Thoughts for Today

We have false security when we lie to ourselves, thinking we are better than others or we are exempt from the same laws that apply to everyone else. As we see in today's scripture, there is no partiality with God. He will measure everyone by the same standard of His law. If we break His law, the same penalty will be applied no matter who we are.

People often depend on external religious behaviors for security …

  • Being a church member
  • Being baptized but having no personal faith in Christ
  • Having Bible knowledge
  • Being a church leader or worker
  • Giving generously to the church
  • Trusting in parent's faith

These actions lead to a sense of false security. We cannot earn our way to heaven. Jesus died to pay the penalty for our sins. We can only be made right with God by accepting Jesus as our Savior and making Him Lord of our life.

We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard. Romans 3:22-23 NLT

Consider this …

Where are you looking for security? Your good deeds? Serving in your church? Your knowledge of the Bible? Although these are good things, they are not your answer. Jesus is the only way. Are you ready to commit yourself to Him? To receive forgiveness? To build a relationship with Him--trusting Him and following Him? Now, that is real security.

Prayer

Thank you, Jesus, for dying for my sins. Please forgive me for all I've done wrong. Forgive me for looking in the wrong places for security. From this point on, I choose to follow you. In Jesus' name … Amen.

These thoughts were drawn from …
