Today's Scripture
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. -Isaiah 9:6 NIV
Thoughts for Today
We are celebrating the birth of our Savior, the Prince of Peace. How amazing that He was willing to leave His throne in heaven and be born in a manger. Willing to live among us, walk dusty paths, experience hunger and weariness. Willing to teach us face-to-face about his love. Willing to be questioned and criticized and ridiculed. Willing to suffer the indignities and pain of the cross. Willing to suffer and die for you … and for me.
And now He sits at the right hand of the Father, interceding for us, still demonstrating His love. Through Him, we can have strength for today and tomorrow. Through Him, we can walk in grace and forgiveness. Through Him, we can have peace amidst the storm.
Consider this …
- Welcome Jesus today.
- Welcome Him as your Lord and Savior.
- Welcome Him as your Wonderful Counselor in times of confusion and distress.
- Welcome Him as Mighty God, the same yesterday, today, and forever.
- Welcome His as your Everlasting Father always there to help you, to comfort you, to strengthen you, to heal you, to guide you, and to love you unconditionally.
- Welcome Him as the Prince of Peace in the turmoil of your life.
Prayer
Father, I thank you for your love and grace and peace. Sometimes I get so caught up in the whirlwind of life that I don't spend time getting to know you better. In the coming months, help me to spend more time with you … to learn to listen … to learn from your Word. In Jesus' name …

Knowing God My Father: Applying the Names of God to My Personal Life by Jimmy Ray Lee, D.Min. This curriculum is designed to help people strengthen their relationship with their heavenly Father by applying His names to their personal life. Along with helping Christians know God better, it can serve as an evangelistic tool by giving a true picture of God to people who may have a distorted view of Him because of an absent or abusive earthly father who did not or does not provide for them. This group can also help men who want to be better fathers. Note: This curriculum was written especially for small groups, and we encourage people to use it that way. However, it can also be used effectively as a personal study for individuals or couples.
