Today's Scripture
Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:12 NLT
Thoughts for Today
When considering new goals for their lives, Christians sometimes resolve to read more in the Bible and to spend more time studying. This is a good thing. God wants us to study His Word. But He doesn't want that to be the end of it.
Are you reading for information—or transformation?
In countries that enjoy freedom of religion, Bible teaching and tools for Bible study are plentiful. Books, sermons, Bible studies, Sunday school, online teaching … and on and on. Pastors are constantly looking for new perspectives, new points to make in their sermons. But what are we doing with all that we have already heard and read? Are we applying the Biblical principles we've learned to our lives … have we allowed God to transform us through His Word … or are we just storing knowledge?
Consider this …
This week we will be looking at a few of the many powerful ways our lives can—and should—be transformed through God's Word. Consider taking these thoughts to the Lord and asking Him to use all the biblical knowledge you have stored to truly transform the way you think … and that this transformation will breathe new life—His life—into everything you do.
Prayer
Father, I thank you for your Word. I thank you for the many ways you've allowed me to learn from it. Now I ask that you help me more fully apply what I've learned to my life. That you will transform me by changing the way I think. That I will learn to know your will for me.
In Jesus' name …
These thoughts were drawn from … Authentic Living in an Artificial World by Dr. Mike Chapman. This 45-minute group study gives understanding about what it means to be real. The facilitator's guide includes reproducible group member study sheets and an audio CD designed to help facilitators prepare for each session. Note: This curriculum was written especially for small groups, and we encourage people to use it that way. However, it can also be used effectively as a study for individuals or couples.
