What We Can Be Certain Of
“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns” (Philippians 1:6 nlt).
I’m not a fan of magnifying mirrors. They expose and amplify my flaws. Thankfully when God looks at us, He sees the finished work. He sees what we will become one day. Meanwhile, we just see the flaws. We just see the shortcomings.
Philippians 1:6 gives a wonderful promise to followers of Jesus Christ: “God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns” (nlt). God always finishes what He begins.
On the other hand, I don’t always finish what I begin. I start projects but don’t always finish them. Maybe you’re the same way. Sometimes we don’t finish things because of a lack of resources or power. But more often than not, it’s probably a lack of desire. We just don’t care anymore.
God, however, has unlimited resources. He has unlimited power. And He has unlimited interest in us. Although He knows everything about us, He also sees our potential and His plan. He sees the endgame He has for each of us.
Someone might say, “Well, this world is such a horrible place, and the devil is so powerful. I might just fall away.” If you want to continue on as a follower of Jesus, then you will. The Bible says, “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him” (Philippians 2:13 nlt).
And Hebrews 12:2 says we are to look to Jesus, “the author and finisher of our faith.” So, if you desire to go forward as a Christian, then you will. You’ll make it if you want to.
God’s plan for you is good. He has your future sorted out and put together. He will bring what He started in your life to completion. The best thing to do is just trust Him.
