Hands-on Faith for Families – week of February 22, 2016

Theme: Believing in God’s Best for You

Moth, Rust, Thieves

Scripture: Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal.” (Matthew 6:20).

Play: Play Moth, Rust, Thieves: One child names something she sees, and the others classify as to whether moths, rust or thieves could destroy or steal it. If the child names something that can’t be stolen or ruined (like a smile, kindness, love or family), give her a coin to demonstrate she has chosen a valuable treasure.

Talk: Matthew 6:19-21 talks about treasures that God wants us to value. While shiny and pretty new things may seem valuable, God says those things can wither away or lose their shine. When we behave in ways that honor God, we learn what real treasure is. We can’t put a price on true treasure, and it can’t be destroyed or stolen. What are some ways you can find true treasures?

Pray: Pray for God to help you recognize true treasures that can’t be stolen or destroyed.
