Hands-on Faith for Families– week of December 17, 2018

Theme:Accept God’s Help

Ask for Help

Scripture:do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (Philippians 4:6 ESV)

Play:Make pairs. One person in the pair can use his voice, but can’t move. The other can move, but only if asked, and can’t say anything. Ask each pair to complete a task, such as having one person raise a hand and recite a Bible verse. (The person with the voice will have to ask the other person to move his own hand in the air and hold it while he recites the verse.) Other tasks might be to laugh and clap or sing and stand on one leg.

Talk:  Whenever you have to do something you can’t do yourself, you should ask for help. Telling God you need His help is part of being “poor in spirit.” He wants us to tell Him our needs (Matthew 6:11). The Bible says we will be blessed if we display a spirit that humbly looks to God for answers (Matthew 5:3). Being poor in spirit makes us rich in God’s eyes. What are some ways that you can ask God for help each day — not just when you are in trouble?

Pray:Talk to God about what you need right now, and ask Him to help you trust Him.
