POST ELECTION - WHERE IS YOUR TRUST?
After 600+ days of campaigning, and over $1 billion dollars of campaign spending, the 2016 election is finally finished. Phew! Half the country is greatly elated and the other half is greatly deflated (to put it mildly for the other half). However, the entire country is shocked by the nearly impossible outcome: Donald J. Trump is the newly elected President of the United States of America.
While many celebrate his victory as a direct answer to prayer, many see his presidency as the worst thing that could have possibly happened in this country. To say the least, we are "the divided states of America" at this point in time.
Certainly, neither Trump nor Clinton is the answer to what ails us as a nation. The Lord Jesus Christ is the answer. A return to biblical morality and biblical values is critical if we are ever going to rise above the deep problems plaguing us as a people. Those who disagree with that statement do not understand how the blessing of God works in a nation.
THE FEAR OF THE LORD
The Bible makes it clear that "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge." If a person refuses to acknowledge God and give Him the honor due His name, that person will never know wisdom and knowledge. They may be educated and profess to be wise, but they will simply be a learned fool. They will be akin to the man who missed the first buttonhole on his shirt. No matter how meticulously he works on the rest of the buttons, the shirt will never be right. The fear of the Lord is that fundamental and foundational.
THE WAYS OF THE LORD
If we want to be blessed of God, we must get ourselves on blessing ground. God will not bless a nation that rewards slothfulness, deceit, thievery, excuses, irresponsibility, and blame-shifting. God blesses righteousness. He blesses those who get themselves right and start going in His direction. He blesses nations who turn to Him and seek Him for guidance and wisdom.
Nineveh was an evil, wicked, violent city. The people were destined for the judgment of God. But when Jonah preached imminent destruction, they heard and heeded. They fasted and prayed and sincerely cried out to the Lord for mercy ... and they found mercy in the Lord. We can, too.
THE RESPONSIBILITY OF MAN
God works miracles in response to our faith. God will not do what we can do ... and we cannot do what He can do. If we refuse to take personal responsibility for our lives and national responsibility for our actions, we will never see God move mountains or turn water into wine. Jesus doesn't fill the water pots with water. That is man's responsibility. If every American will start to do what he or she can do, we will see God do what we could never do. It starts with a step of faith.
TRUST IN THE LORD
Regardless of who is president, Jesus is still the King ... and He will always be the King. Those who call themselves Christians and are fearing a Trump presidency need to check their hearts. Are you trusting in God or government? No Christian should ever look to the government to meet his needs. If he does, he is guilty of idolatry and breaking the first commandment, "You shall have no other gods before Me."
PRAY
Prayer is the key to it all. When we pray from a humble, repentant heart, God hears us and answers in mighty power.
May all of us pray for healing in our country. May we pray for the deception of the evil one to be removed so that people can see clearly and respond rightly. May we pray for God's love and truth to eradicate hate and lies, and for common sense morality to replace utter foolishness. May we ask God to bless our president with the wisdom and strength needed to lead our country to prosperity, peace, and safety for all Americans.

The School of Prayer
"Lord, teach us to pray," was a request of Jesus' disciples. They knew they needed to learn and grow in this vital spiritual area of life. There is great power in prayer, so the devil fights to keep us off our knees. In this inspiring series, Pastor Jeff Schreve shares the fundamental principles of prayer to help you take your prayer life to a higher level and see God "answer you, and … tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know."
