Where Are You?

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
Some days can become so routine that they all look the same. I have to admit these days during the quarantine sometimes feel the same and I am in danger of letting my foot slip. If I were being honest, my foot did slip. I found myself struggling with things that I had given up. I found myself losing hope.
It all happened so fast. One decision led to another, all of a sudden I was somewhere I didn’t want to be. Without peace, without joy, just without… The prayer lines stopped in the morning, my favorite gospel station went offline, and I started watching the news instead of Joyce Meyer in the mornings. Before I knew it, I looked up and things were different. I was different.
One day I heard the Holy Spirit ask me, “Where are you?” It was an interesting question and I did ponder it for a while when I answered, “I don’t know.”
It led me to the story of Adam and Eve in Genesis 3 when God asked Adam the same question.
Genesis 3:8-9, “Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
It’s interesting that after they disobeyed God, they hid. God knew where Adam was. Adam didn’t know where he was. Isn’t this how things happen in life? You make one decision and it could change the course of your entire life, putting you onto an unknown path. As with Adam and Eve, their one choice changed the course of not only their lives but all of ours.
Disobedience is dangerous. Affecting not only us but those around us. There are those that are connected to us through faith and there is a direct correlation between our walk and theirs.
It had only been a month since things had changed in my life but it seemed like six. I realized I needed to repent. I was not only sorry for being disobedient but was hungry for the Holy Spirit’s comfort, counsel, and companionship. I missed Him. I’d come too far with Him to be without Him.
I felt like David in Psalm 119:174-176, “I long for your salvation, Lord, and your law gives me delight. Let me live that I may praise you, and may your laws sustain me. I have strayed like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I have not forgotten your commands.”
Heavenly Father, thank You for directing my steps back onto the right path. Like a lost sheep, I had begun to wander but You came for me. You know what’s best for me. Help me to lean on You and Your teachings so that I may live and represent You well. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
