Who did God create you to be?

March 3

For you created my inmost being;you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. - Psalm 139:13-14

Actor Peter Sellers is well known for his work in television and movies. He’s also famous for the amount of time and energy he puts into immersing himself in his characters. It’s been said that on occasion, when someone would walk up to him and ask, “Are you Peter Sellers?” he would often respond with, “Not today!”

While dropping your identity for the sake of a movie role might be acceptable, a problem arises when you drop your identity because you’re ashamed of who you are. Many people look at others and think, “I wish I was more like them.” So they forsake how God has created them and try to fit themselves into the image of another person.

But the truth is that God has created you fearfully and wonderfully. As He was knitting you together in your mother’s womb, He was giving you the gifts and talents you needed to fulfill His purpose for your life here on earth.

Don’t be ashamed of how God has created you. Accept and celebrate the fact that you were created to be you and to have a specific purpose. Don’t be the second someone else. Be the first you!

Prayer Challenge

Pray and ask God to help you live a life of authenticity and comfort in who He made you to be.

Questions for Thought

Why do you think it’s so tempting for us to aspire to be someone else?

How might your life look different if it was lived in complete surrender to who God created you to be?
