What’s first in your life?

July 27, 2015

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. - Matthew 6:33

When the famous missionary David Livingstone died, his body was shipped to England where he was buried in Westminster Abbey in London. Yet, what many people don’t know is that his heart was buried in Africa where he lived for many, many years.

That’s right. At the foot of a tall tree in a small village, the Africans dug a hole and placed in it the heart of this man whom they loved and respected.

Unless the Lord returns, every single one of us will face the same fate as Dr. Livingstone. So the question is this: If you were to be interred in the same way as Livingstone, where would your heart be buried? In your office? In your wallet? In your reputation?

What do you hold most dear in your life right now?

It’s never too late to realign you priorities. So instead of clinging tightly to your money, your work, your reputation, or anything else that will perish, cling to God and His purpose for you. Find your value in who He’s created you to be and the mission He’s placed on your life. Seek His Kingdom first and believe everything else will be added.

Prayer Challenge

Pray and ask God to show you what it means to seek His Kingdom and His purpose first and foremost in your life.

Questions for Thought

If you were to be honest, where do you think your heart would be buried based on your priorities today?

When this life is over, what kind of legacy of faithfulness do you want to leave to those who come after you?
