Through the Fire – Beloved Women – October 6, 2020
READ: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.” (Isaiah 43:2 ESV)
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: I’ve always wanted to walk through fire coals to feel the heat under my feet and to prove to myself what I am capable of. Nope, I haven’t done it and probably won’t do it now either - the adventure junkie in me is losing her edge and has shifted her priorities. And yes, I’ve watched way too many episodes of Road Rules and Fear Factor. That said, I can’t imagine what it feels like to literally walk through fire and come out unscathed. Picture that with me for a moment. Picture yourself in a burning building and being rescued and realizing that you didn’t feel the heat nor does your body show any signs of being in a fire. What a miraculous type of LOVE that keeps us not only safe but whole.
This verse is a great reminder of the grandiose LOVE God gives us. A love that is present in our troubles. A love that is with us in the fire, as He was with the three Hebrew boys (Daniel 3:24-26). A love that gave His only begotten Son. A love that prepares us for the road ahead - the verse reads, “when you” not “if you”. Therefore, when we pass through the waters, God will be with us. Let us press on with this reminder. Let us keep His promise in our hearts for those overwhelming seasons because they will come. How comforting to know that the Most High God is with us through it all. He is a present God, not a distant one.
PRAY: Heavenly Father, I pray that You would remind me of this verse during my difficult moments. That You would remind me that I can call on You if I feel distant. Remind me to encourage someone else with Your promise when they are going through difficult seasons in life. Allow me to feel Your presence and relinquish control. I pray that in those moments, I would cast my cares on You and I ask that You would lift the burden that is not for me to carry. You said it, it will not overwhelm me nor consume me, in You, I hope Lord. I thank you Lord, for Your sovereign protection and how You care for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
REFLECT: Can you recall a time of feeling overwhelmed and how you navigated through it? Did you call on God immediately? Or was He your last resort? Let’s seek Him and His Kingdom first.
