A Prayer of Desperation – Beloved Women – June 23, 2020
READ: “Please deliver me from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau, for I fear him, that he may come and attack me, the mothers with the children.” (Genesis 32: 11 ESV)
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: Have you ever felt vulnerable and prayed out of desperation? Jacob stole the birthright and blessing from his brother Esau. After fleeing and living with his uncle Laban for so many years, he was now returning home.
As he got close to home, he sent some men to announce his arrival. He also sent gifts of livestock to Esau. When the men returned, they told Jacob that Esau and an army of 400 men were on the way to meet him. Jacob panicked. He prayed out of desperation.
“O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, O Lord who said to me, ‘Return to your country and to your kindred, that I may do you good. I am not worthy of the least of all the deeds of steadfast love and all the faithfulness that you have shown to your servant’ … Please deliver me from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau, for I fear him, that he may come and attack me, the mothers with the children.” Genesis 32:9-11 ESV.
Perhaps, like Jacob, you are facing a difficult and overwhelming situation. Instead of giving in to fear, cry out to God and remind him of his promises. He is faithful and his love for you is unwavering. God desires to help us despite our shortcomings. He is only a prayer away.
PRAY: Lord, thank You that I can call upon You any time. Help me with the difficult situations that I am facing today. Thank You for giving me wisdom and for your unfailing love. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
