What it Means to Live in Freedom - Beloved Women - January 13, 2020

READ: “Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.” (1 Peter 2:16 ESV)

TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: “How I live my life is my business. I am not hurting anyone.” These words feel like a mantra for many people today. Even as Christians, we can fall into a trap that tells us if it does not hurt anyone, then it is no big deal. We seem to forget that with freedom comes responsibility.

In 1 Peter 2, the Apostle reminds us that we have a Christian responsibility for all of our actions and how they impact those around us. That also includes any activities that are not considered sins.

For example, some of the TV shows I watch might fall into this category. I may feel completely comfortable watching them but if I have a friend who is not, I should not encourage them to watch the show or watch it around them. To do so would be a misuse of my Christian freedoms.

Our freedoms are precious to us, but we must not use them as a cover-up for how it affects others. As they say in the military; Freedom is never free.

PRAY: Dear Jesus, let me always be mindful of how I use my personal freedoms. Teach me to be aware of how my ways affect those around me. Thank You for allowing us freedom in our daily lives and for always loving us. In the precious name of Jesus. Amen.

REFLECT: What habits do you have that might impact the Christian walk of those around you?
