Impossible Situations – Beloved Women – August 21, 2020

READ: “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?” (John 6:9 ESV)

TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: A house fire left my family homeless in 2015. The situation looked bleak and hopeless. It was hard to imagine how we would ever recover from the devastation.

In John 6, Jesus and the disciples were on their way to get some rest. But a large crowd followed them. Jesus asked Philip where they could buy bread to feed the crowd. I can only imagine the look on Philip’s face when he told Jesus, “Even if we worked for months, we won’t have enough money to feed them!” (John 6:7)

Then Andrew said that a young boy in the crowd had five barley loaves and two fish. Given the size of the crowd, Andrew’s solution was ridiculous. How would they feed over 5,000 people with five loaves of bread and two fish? The situation looked impossible.

But Jesus took control of the situation. He told the disciples to have all the people sit. Then Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up to heaven, and gave thanks.

He broke the loaves and fish and asked the disciples to serve the people. Everyone ate until they were full. There was enough leftover to fill twelve baskets. Jesus took what looked impossible and made it to be enough and overabundant!

Perhaps you have a major decision to make or are facing some challenges; invite God and ask for His help. No matter the nature of our impossible situations, Jesus will help us, if we trust Him. With Jesus in control, all things are possible.

PRAY: Lord, thank You that You are in control of all situations and nothing is impossible with You. I lift my difficulties and trials to You. Help me trust You to bring good out of these trials. Thank You for keeping me in Your peace while You work it out. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.

REFLECT: In what ways will you turn your seemingly impossible situation over to God and ask for his help?
