The Best Kind of Plans – Beloved Women – August 10, 2020
READ: “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” (Proverbs 16:3 ESV)
TODAYS ENCOURAGEMENT: While meeting a friend for coffee, she said, “I’ve got big plans this year!” She was right. Her list of travel destinations has mega aspirations.
I shared my goals too. Looking at our lists, we had a few gasps and giggles. We knew God was all ears and we hoped He was all-in on what we discussed. And yet, it’s really the other way around.
My friend and I desire to be all-in on His plans. Proverbs 16:3 shows us how.
“Commit” is the Hebrew word galal. It means “to roll.” It implies the image of a stone being rolled away. As I roll my work into God’s will, my commitment keeps ungodly motives from my heart.
Otherwise, in my enthusiasm over my work, I may be tempted to forget His sovereignty. But as I roll my expectations and rest them on His faithfulness, the best kind of plan unfolds.
Long before I had an inkling to set a goal, He established good works for me. (Ephesians 2:10) My friend and I left the coffee shop encouraged by His love. I hope you are too. From the smallest detail to the biggest result, through Christ, we can do all things.
PRAY: Dear God, Thank You for the good works You’ve prepared for me to do. As I discover each task, I commit my work to You. My steps may not be perfect, but I know You’ll be with me every step of the way. Help me to experience You in the smallest of details and may the results bring glory and honor to Your Name. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
REFLECT: As you roll your work into God’s will, what motive do you see?
