What Are You Wearing? – Beloved Women – April 15, 2020

READ: “Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness and patience.” (Colossians 3:12 ESV)

TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: I am a jeans and high heels kind of woman. Some women need to wear a beautiful summer dress to feel that extra level of confidence or a nice lip color that pops. As for me, just give me heels. We can agree that certain kinds of clothes or items have the ability to change our demeanor. We’ve heard the phrase, dress the part.

Paul’s letter to the Colossians is instructing the church to “put on” the outfit God has set apart for His body. The wardrobe fit for a queen – compassion, kindness, and humility. The same way we put on our church clothes on Sundays, we must also clothe ourselves in kindness and compassion. This isn’t passive, this isn’t an exterior thing either – it’s the work we do as believers in participation with the work of the Holy Spirit. Just as we take our umbrella when it’s raining or put on rain coats, let us also weather the storms that come our way with kindness, compassion, and humility.  As God’s chosen and renewed ones, let us be intentional with our walk with the Lord; leaving behind the clothes that don’t fit us (anger, malice, idolatry) and above all, putting on LOVE as the Word instructs us. (Colossians 3:14)

PRAY: Dear Heavenly Father, I ask that you remind me of my royal garb. Shake me out of any level of comfort where I think there isn’t more for me to do or grow in. I thank You Lord, that You clothe me in righteousness and that You are at work in me. Father, as Your chosen one I will be intentional and put on love when I sometimes feel like putting on discord or animosity. I ask for Your strength and guidance as I grow through the seasons of life. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.

REFLECT: How can you be more intentional with clothing yourself with compassion, kindness, humility and love? What are the guideposts that you need along the way to keep you on track? Put it on, and don’t leave home without them.

SHARE: As God’s chosen and renewed ones, let us be intentional with our walk with the Lord, leaving behind the clothes that don’t fit us (anger, malice, idolatry) and above all, putting on LOVE.
