Deep Well and No Bucket? - Beloved Women - December 26, 2024
READ: “The woman said to him, ‘Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water?” (John 4:11 ESV)
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: Have you ever had someone give you the ‘once over’ with their eyes? I certainly have. It’s one of those universal “let me get a good look at you” moments that leads to judgement. Imagine the woman at the well doing this to Jesus. Deep well and no bucket? Really, Sir? She immediately makes a determination about what He could or couldn’t do based on what she could see with her eyes. No matter the condition of resources, or the depth of the problem, may we learn to trust beyond what we can see. It’s okay to doubt and question, but we shouldn’t camp out there. Just like the Woman at the Well, our view often becomes obscured through the earthbound lens of observable facts. But, ultimately it’s not about the depth of the well or the lack of a bucket. It’s about what is going on in the spiritual realm that we cannot see. Spiritual resources cannot be seen with a focus firmly fixed on earthly circumstances. Let’s ask God to open our spiritual eyes so that we may see the Living Water in front of us, take a drink, and let Him satisfy our thirst!
PRAY: Jesus, You are the Living Water that never runs dry! I come to You to have my thirst quenched. May I always remember to fix my eyes on You. You are a God that provides for my needs before I even become aware of the problem. May I trust You and know that You are always able. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
REFLECT: Think of the questions you have for God about a circumstance you’re currently facing. Write them out and take them to God in prayer. We can trust Him to provide in ways that may surprise us!
