Cyrus Ingersoll Scofield was born. Although without formal Bible training, his studies of the scripture enabled him to produce the Scofield Reference Bible. He founded a mission to South America.

James Milton Black (1856 to 1938)

Not One of His Own Songs Was Included.

James Milton Black was born in Sullivan County, New York. Following an early music education in singing and organ playing, Black made his living by teaching singing schools. He was editor of more than a dozen gospel songbooks. An active Methodist, he served on the Joint Commission for the Methodist Hymnal. Not one of his gospel songs was included in the hymnbook. Best known of them was "When the Roll Is Called up Yonder."
