Charles Howard Marsh (1886 to 1956)

Protestant

Music for Beloved Hymns.

Charles Howard Marsh was born at Magnolia, Iowa to a Congregational minister who had recently emigrated from England. Shortly after graduating from high school, Charles was invited by Dr. J. Wilbur Chapman to be pianist at the Winona Lake (Indiana) Bible Conference. After further study he taught music at BIOLA; then followed further study and music ministry in the US and in France. Known for his poetry and painting, he wrote many songs, anthems and instrumental works. But he is best known for the music to which we sing Henry Ostrom's "Is It the Crowning Day?" and Dr. J. Wilbur Chapman's "One Day" (which gives the meaning of the each event of the birth and death of Christ in its five verses).
