Birth of Edmund Hamilton Sears, author of the Christmas hymn, "It Came Upon the Midnight Clear." Sears was a Unitarian clergyman; but he was also a contradiction: for, while Unitarians deny the divinity of Christ, he claimed ". . . I believe and preach the divinity of Christ."
