Johann Rist (1607 to 1667)
"Break Forth, O Beauteous Heavenly Light."
Johann Rist was born at Ottensen, near Hamburg. This German Lutheran clergyman wrote nearly 700 hymns, and his "Break Forth, 0 Beauteous Heavenly Light" is still sung today. Emperor Ferdinand honored him as a poet.
