21 My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion;
21 My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:
21 My son, do not lose sight of these-- keep sound wisdom and discretion,
21 Dear friend, guard Clear Thinking and Common Sense with your life; don't for a minute lose sight of them.
21 My son, let them not depart from your eyes-- Keep sound wisdom and discretion;
21 My child, don't lose sight of common sense and discernment. Hang on to them,
14 Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have insight, I have power.
14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.
14 I have counsel and sound wisdom; I have insight; I have strength.
14 Good counsel and common sense are my characteristics; I am both Insight and the Virtue to live it out.
14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom; I am understanding, I have strength.
14 Common sense and success belong to me. Insight and strength are mine.
(Read Proverbs 8:12-21)
Wisdom, here is Christ, in whom are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge; it is Christ in the word, and Christ in the heart; not only Christ revealed to us, but Christ revealed in us. All prudence and skill are from the Lord. Through the redemption of Christ's precious blood, the riches of his grace abound in all wisdom and prudence. Man found out many inventions for ruin; God found one for our recovery. He hates pride and arrogance, evil ways and froward conversation; these render men unwilling to hear his humbling, awakening, holy instructions. True religion gives men the best counsel in all difficult cases, and helps to make their way plain. His wisdom makes all truly happy who receive it in the love of Christ Jesus. Seek him early, seek him earnestly, seek him before any thing else. Christ never said, Seek in vain. Those who love Christ, are such as have seen his loveliness, and have had his love shed abroad in their hearts; therefore they are happy. They shall be happy in this world, or in that which is beyond compare better. Wealth gotten by vanity will soon be diminished, but that which is well got, will wear well; and that which is well spent upon works of piety and charity, will be lasting. If they have not riches and honour in this world, they shall have that which is infinitely better. They shall be happy in the grace of God. Christ, by his Spirit, guides believers into all truth, and so leads them in the way of righteousness; and they walk after the Spirit. Also, they shall be happy in the glory of God hereafter. In Wisdom's promises, believers have goods laid up, not for days and years, but for eternity; her fruit therefore is better than gold.
13 Do I have any power to help myself, now that success has been driven from me?
13 Is not my help in me? and is wisdom driven quite from me?
13 Have I any help in me, when resource is driven from me?
13 Do you think I can pull myself up by my bootstraps? Why, I don't even have any boots! My So-Called Friends
13 Is my help not within me? And is success driven from me?
13 No, I am utterly helpless, without any chance of success.
(Read Job 6:8-13)
Job had desired death as the happy end of his miseries. For this, Eliphaz had reproved him, but he asks for it again with more vehemence than before. It was very rash to speak thus of God destroying him. Who, for one hour, could endure the wrath of the Almighty, if he let loose his hand against him? Let us rather say with David, O spare me a little. Job grounds his comfort upon the testimony of his conscience, that he had been, in some degree, serviceable to the glory of God. Those who have grace in them, who have the evidence of it, and have it in exercise, have wisdom in them, which will be their help in the worst of times.
13 "To God belong wisdom and power; counsel and understanding are his.
13 With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding.
13 "With God
13 "True wisdom and real power belong to God; from him we learn how to live, and also what to live for.
13 "With Him are wisdom and strength, He has counsel and understanding.
13 "But true wisdom and power are found in God; counsel and understanding are his.
(Read Job 12:12-25)
This is a noble discourse of Job concerning the wisdom, power, and sovereignty of God, in ordering all the affairs of the children of men, according to the counsel of His own will, which none can resist. It were well if wise and good men, who differ about lesser things, would see how it is for their honour and comfort, and the good of others, to dwell most upon the great things in which they agree. Here are no complaints, or reflections. He gives many instances of God's powerful management of the children of men, overruling all their counsels, and overcoming all their oppositions. Having all strength and wisdom, God knows how to make use, even of those who are foolish and bad; otherwise there is so little wisdom and so little honesty in the world, that all had been in confusion and ruin long ago. These important truths were suited to convince the disputants that they were out of their depth in attempting to assign the Lord's reasons for afflicting Job; his ways are unsearchable, and his judgments past finding out. Let us remark what beautiful illustrations there are in the word of God, confirming his sovereignty, and wisdom in that sovereignty: but the highest and infinitely the most important is, that the Lord Jesus was crucified by the malice of the Jews; and who but the Lord could have known that this one event was the salvation of the world?

Let us not suffer Christ's words to depart from us, but keep sound wisdom and discretion; then shall we walk safely in his ways. The natural life, and all that belongs to it, shall be under the protection of God's providence; the spiritual life, and all its interests, under the protection of his grace, so that we shall be kept from falling into sin or trouble.
