22 A good person leaves an inheritance for their children's children, but a sinner's wealth is stored up for the righteous.
22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
22 A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the sinner's wealth is laid up for the righteous.
22 A good life gets passed on to the grandchildren; ill-gotten wealth ends up with good people.
22 A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, But the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.
22 Good people leave an inheritance to their grandchildren, but the sinner's wealth passes to the godly.
13 Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out. 14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the Lord; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out. 15 Let them be before the Lord continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.
13 May his posterity be cut off; may his name be blotted out in the second generation! 14 May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord, and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out! 15 Let them be before the Lord continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth!
13 Chop down his family tree so that nobody even remembers his name. 14 But erect a memorial to the sin of his father, and make sure his mother's name is there, too - 15 Their sins recorded forever before God, but they themselves sunk in oblivion.
13 Let his posterity be cut off, And in the generation following let their name be blotted out. 14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord, And let not the sin of his mother be blotted out. 15 Let them be continually before the Lord, That He may cut off the memory of them from the earth;
13 May all his offspring die. May his family name be blotted out in the next generation. 14 May the Lord never forget the sins of his fathers; may his mother's sins never be erased from the record. 15 May the Lord always remember these sins, and may his name disappear from human memory.
(Read Psalm 109:6-20)
The Lord Jesus may speak here as a Judge, denouncing sentence on some of his enemies, to warn others. When men reject the salvation of Christ, even their prayers are numbered among their sins. See what hurries some to shameful deaths, and brings the families and estates of others to ruin; makes them and theirs despicable and hateful, and brings poverty, shame, and misery upon their posterity: it is sin, that mischievous, destructive thing. And what will be the effect of the sentence, "Go, ye cursed," upon the bodies and souls of the wicked! How it will affect the senses of the body, and the powers of the soul, with pain, anguish, horror, and despair! Think on these things, sinners, tremble and repent.
