Why can't I view Adobe PDF files in Internet Explorer after installing Windows XP SP2 (Service Pack 2)?
This is a known problem that Adobe PDF files may not properly open in Internet Explorer after installing Windows XP SP2 (Service Pack 2). This is not a problem with the Christianity.com web page you are viewing.
Symptoms
- When you click on a link to a PDF file, Acrobat Reader displays its splash screen and loads into memory, but the PDF file is not displayed.
- Internet Explorer then hangs for about 5 minutes.
- Adobe Reader then displays an error message box indicating that either the file I/O operation timed out or the PDF file was corrupt.
Remedy
Use the following in order to workaround this issue until an update to the Adobe Reader software has been published:
Use Save As...
Instead of clicking on the link to view the PDF file in your browser, right-click on the link and choose Save As, then save the file to your hard drive. You can then open the file from your hard drive and view it within Adobe Reader on your computer.
We will be monitoring Adobe for a fix to this problem and will post the solution here as soon as it is available.
